From SS Kelly To Chief Commissioner Military Headquarters

Laurence Berrill, 11 Moss Street St, Lbc 24 years and James Kavanagh, 2 Princes Street, seafaring man, 31 years have been detained here, who were found in Burgh Quay by Constable Barton 34B at 3.30am this morning. Berrill had 24 rifle cartridges in his possession and made a signed statement to say that the cartridges and rifle were given to him at Princes St at ll.15pm, 24 inst., by an officer of Citizen army. He remained about two hours with his rifle at corner of Princes Street and GPO and James Connolly was at corner of Freeman office when leaving. Berrill is a prominent Sinn Feiner.

John Kelly, Lorrens Parade, North Circular Road 17 years, an Irish volunteer is also detained when he was found in possession of a 5 Chamber revolver (loaded) and 33 rounds of ammunition. He confessed having assisted barricading the road at Cabra and afterwards bringing the revolutionaries message to G.P.O.
