“That Kinvarra is in the hands of Sinn Feiners shots are being fired and ammunition seized from Traders.

2. Wire recd from Hd Qrs Irish Command Park Gate 26 4 16

Received 6.10pm

The Embarkation Commandant at Kingstown got a message wire wireless from Vice Admiral Queenstown- urgent- message by “pass to military from Senior Naval Officer. Galway-begins- all telegraphic communications cut off- railway destroyed for miles between Galway and Dublin- several police stations attacked but prominent rebels arrested now on board the “Laburnam” one policeman killed this morning. Galway itself quiet but bands of rebels in country near Tuam who have seized motor cars. At least 200 troops are necessary for safety of town and districts, rebels reported advancing on Town” ends.

N.B From Broadstone traffic mgt 10pm 26/4/16:

Traffic manager at Broadstone telephoned to Clonsilla an hour ago to ascertain state of line and was informed that as far as Athenry all is right but between Athenry & Galway, the rails have been pulled up in several places. He heard nothing of any bridge being blown up. He heard unofficially that Renmore Bks has been taken.

    i.e. received [recd] in place of ‘new’; also numeral should be (2).
