Telephone message from Mr Mercer, R.I.C. Depot to Dublin Castle received 4-20 p.m. 27/4/16.
The following message was received at Kingsbridge from the Sergeant of Constabulary at Killinick, County Wexford.
“Inform Military at Dublin fighting going on in Wexford between Sinn Fein and police. Bridge blown up, Sent troops at once.”
The Inspector General sent this message to the G. O.C. and asked what reply should be sent.
The G.O.C. replied that no troops can be spared for Wexford at present.
The Inspector General replied to that effect that the Sergeant at Killinick and told him to transmit any further information he may obtain.
