“Inspector at Drogheda now telephones that 200 armed rebels have taken Garristown”

Copy of telegram received from the County Inspector, Dundalk; handed in at Dundalk Junction at 5-15p.m. on 27/4/16. Recived at 6-30p.m.

“Order in telegram received. Will be complied with, the exception of the murder of a constable at Castlebellingham on Monday and wounding of Lieut. Dunville, Grenadier Guards, on same occasion by Sinn Feiners nothing of importance has occured.

District Inspector at Drogheda now telephones that 200 armed rebels have taken Garristown & Balrath and are approaching Duleek from whence they may go to Slane said to be held by police. Preparations in Drogheda have been made, viaduct held by strong military guard who have dug themselves in. Commanding Officer Troops Dundalk informed he cannot detatch any men from Dundalk. From information received they are required here.”
