Ashbourne: “party of rebels… sniping at police from houses”

Telegram received from the CI Dundalk. Handed in at 3.55pm. Received at 4.28pm on 28th April 1916.

Telephone now from Drogheda that CI and body of RIC have encountered at Ashbourne a party of rebels who were sniping at police from houses. Ashbourne is on Slane- Dublin road. 50 troops have left Drogheda by motor to help the police. Will wire further particulars when I get any.
