Telegram from CI Dundalk. Handed in at 11.40am. Received in Chief Secretary’s Office at 12.34pm.

Report has now reached me from Drogheda that body of armed rebels who seized Garristown last evening and who were encamped about 7 miles from Drogheda have now marched towards Ashbourne near Dublin, followed by CI Navan and party of police from Slane. Railway officials here report to me that train with provisions for troops at Amiens St was held up by rebels at Donabate and could not get through. Now reported to me that small party of armed rebels with 4000 rounds of ammunition hold a small tower, 4 miles East of Dunleer in this County. With concurrence of OC Commanding Troops Dundalk I have asked GOC Troops Belfast for field gun. Will report developments later.
