“D.I. Smyth and 2 Sgts., 3 Consts, and 2 chauffeurs were killed at Ashbourne”

In continuation of telegram of last night it is now definitely ascertained that D.I. Smyth and 2 Sgts., 3 Consts, and 2 chauffeurs were killed at Ashbourne. 1 constable died of wounds at Navan Infirmary and one sergt and 13 constable died of wounds at Navan Infirmary and one sergt and 13 constables wounded, 3 only slightly, 1 chauffeur seriously wounded. C.I. Gray has a compound fracture in his right forearm and a fracture of left hand and a wound in right hip. Information to hand that the rebels are marching on Dunshaughlin. No reinforcements have yet arrived. Our men lost 54 carbines and swords with ammunition and several revolvers, nearly half the present County force 00000 are therefore disarmed, 2 barracks Kilmoon and Dillonsbridge are vacated.
